Stewardship

Developing An Attitude of Stewardship:

All that we have, and all that we are, are gifts from God.  These gifts include our time, our talents, our ability to work and to earn, our possessions, our families and loved ones, the created world,  and the precious gifts of life and faith.

God gave us these gifts out of his great love for us.

God’s purpose is that we would be good stewards or caretakers of these gifts by using them wisely and generously for the glory of God and the building of God’s kingdom.  In freedom, love, justice and thankfulness, without fear or selfishness, we share all that we have and all that we are.

Stewardship is really discipleship.  All that we have received helps us live as the disciples of Jesus.

Christian Disciples are those who respond to Christ’s call and shape their lives in imitation of Christ’s

The world remains entrusted to the care of men and women for God’s glory and the service of human kind.  In its simplest yet deepest sense, this is Christian Stewardship.

Determining Your Gift

Begin with your weekly, monthly or annual gross income amount.

The Catholic Church encourages us to give 10 percent of this amount to two financial obligations of the faithful: “to assist with the needs of the church” and “to promote social justice and...assist the poor.” Canon 222

Embrace this dual focus, and give a gift of 5 percent of gross income to the parish and an additional 5 percent to charitable causes.

If this goal is too high then determine as a family, through prayer and careful consideration, what percentage you are able to give.  This will differ in each family and individual situation and is your personal decision.

As your family situation changes or annually, re-evaluate your giving ability.

Take time to thank God for all the many blessings you have received.  Pray for the ability to give to others as freely and you have received from God.
